A Dog With A Sock

Riley is sad. He's just seriously SO SAD you guys.

Riley is sad because he has an infection on his foot. He can't remember how he got it. Did he step on something? Get stung by something? He just isn't sure. But the vet doesn't like his infection. He said Riley needs foot baths twice a day, a topical cream, and a two-week course of antibiotics.

Oh, and he needs to wear a sock. So he won't lick his foot.

He would like to know if you've ever seen anything so pathetic.

I mean, he is wearing TODDLER SOCKS. From the DOLLAR STORE. It's humiliating.

Riley is trying to be a good sport. But he'd be very happy to take his sock off now, please and thank you. It's just not natural, you know, a dog in a sock.

(I love this last picture because he kinda looks like a pegleg. Is it politically correct to say 'pegleg'? What I meant was pirate.)

  1. Poor sad Riley. Foot baths! And cream! And... a sock! It's just too much.

How do you keep him from taking his sock off?

    1. You know what's sad, is he doesn't even try to take the sock off. I mean, it's very convenient for US, but it's really sad too. Our dog trainer told us it was called 'learned helplessness' -- basically his life sucked SO BAD before he came to live with us that he thinks he's incapable of doing to anything to improve it. Kind of like the elephant tied to the tiny stake who thinks it can't escape. It means when he's unhappy (like in the bath tub or on the vet's table or wearing a sock) he becomes totally docile. Like I said -- convenient, but sad!

  2. Also, to be really politically correct, I would say he looks "land and law abiding challenged."

  4. Awwwww! Poor Riley. We used to try to put booties on our dog in the winter because the salt on the ground would hurt his paws. But he refused to move until we took them off.

    1. Hahah! Luckily we don't have that problem with Riley. (Although see my comment to Julie about why.) It definitely makes our life a bit easier, even though it's kinda sad!
