So I'm thinking of painting my kitchen. Actually I'm thinking about painting a lot of my house, but let's start with the kitchen for now.
If you follow me on Pinterest, you might know that I have two colour boards that I pin to regularly. One is called I Need More Pink In My Life. (Which is true, I totally do.) And while I would LOVE to paint my entire house pink (It's true, I totally would.) I think Shaun would leave me.
My other colour board is called Pretty In Purple. And boy, do I love all those soft lavender and lilac rooms. So pretty! So modern! So soothing!
Here are a few that I particularly love.
This was an Ikea kitchen, circa about 2009:
Not a kitchen but a dining room:
Another dining area:
A living room -- this was the room that got me started on the idea of a purple room, when I first saw it over a year ago. I adore this room!
But I'm still undecided. I decided it might help if I tried to see what it would look like in my own kitchen. So I snapped a few photos and did a slap-up job in Photoshop.
My kitchen now is a sort of putty colour. Ignore the mess! I was too impatient to clean.
And here's what it would look like if it was purple. I also need curtains so I photoshopped in this little white valance, but I don't particularly like that part.
And more purple!
You can see our cupbards are two different colours: a warm wood on the bottom, a glossy white glass on the top. Our countertops and island top are white. Though you can't really see it in this photo, the backsplash is a charcoal grey subway tile. The floors are bamboo. On the other side of the kitchen are stairs, with a thin black iron stair rail, which won't change.
Thoughts on the purple? I'm kind of digging it but I'm still unsure. At one point I also thought about doing a light robin's egg blue -- in fact, that's why I got that blue tea towel, to get a feel for that colour in the kitchen. I somewhat like it but not with the warm wood cabinets on the bottom - the blue and orange seems too contrasty to me.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I actually took these photos in the summer, as you can tell by the green trees outside the window. So that gives you an idea of how long I've been hemming and hawing about painting. Help me make a decision!
Purple? Another colour? Leave as is?
